I promised I wasn't going to do as many fests this year, and I will keep that promise, but I enjoyed hds_beltane a lot last year, and I couldn't pass the chance :)

It's a Beltane oriented fest with Harry, Draco and Severus as the main characters (in any combination you like) and it's a wonderful fest. This year it will be restricted to 31 artists and 31 fic writers, so hurry and sign up!

(I might have written the longest sign up post ever, but I'm quite happy with it. The conclusion would be 'don't make Draco an ass, make him hurt. Also, if someone's hurt, make that be Draco'. *is happy*)

Sorry for the spammage, but have uni stuff to do, and that means I spent all day on LJ :)

I've started really recycling paper this summer, and the results are visible, at least judging by the stack of papers I have around, each in its own category. Here's what I do, maybe it will inspire you :)

1. I have a big plastic bag by the desk. Everything that can't be reused gets thrown in there, no matter how small. It weighs around 6 kilos right now.

2. I can't read something if it's printed on both sides, because turning the page and not being able to see everything at one time isn't productive for me, so I print everything on one side and when I no longer need the paper, it's added to the 'to print on' stack. This goes for courses, documentation from the net, electronic books that I need for uni and not much else.
When I need to print something, I take papers from that stack (unless I need to turn them in at uni)

3. The papers that are folded or only partly written (as in 1/4 of a page) are folded in half and used for drafts (and fic writing). I have a stack of them on ym desk and use them to jot down notes, reminders, pretty much everything. This is the 'to write on' stack ;)

4. Papers from both categories are sometimes used to make notepads. I found several online tutorials for making notepads and they're easy to make and make me feel great when using them. Plus, they're free. Anyone feeling crafty ;) ?

What do you guys do to recycle paper? (Or anything else, for that matter)

PDF stands for 'Portable Document Format' and its main advantage is that it's platform independent. It's also program independent, meaning that there are several programs that can open and manipulate it, on any platform, and anyone can develop new applications that can create, open and use a PDF file.

There's a Wikipedia article about it here and you can find out a lot about it there, and here's a list of PDF software, also on wikipedia.

The reason why I thought of writing this post is this article where you can find a list of PDF programs (free or mostly free) that can get you through the most common tasks when working with PDFs.

I can write again! As in I'm not horribly disappointed with every sentence I write, and have decided to try for more elaborate fics for the Christmas prompts some of you gave me, so if you want to add anything, please do, and if you haven't given em a prompt, please do :)

Oh, and if you had a rarer pairing in mind and had a plot you want written, tell me, because I have a strange urge to try my hand at new pairings (not Harry's professors, or anyone much older than him, please ;)

I remembered today that there was a time when i was glued to the Tv instead of the monitor, watching cartoons instead of reading fics, so i did some searches (mostly YouTube) for the shows I used to watch and despite the odd animations and music, they got me grinning like a fool.

I remember how I used to finish the dinner, have a shower and get in bed by 9 o'clock when Johnny Quest started (and be very disappointed when it was one of those animation movies, though I watched it anyway). A few years ago Cartoon Network had a whole day of it on Christmas day, and it was right after a disastrous trip to the mountains. My grandma, grandpa and me got home and I frobade them to call my mother until the marathon was over, so i could watch it in peace :)

Then I remembered Pirates of Dark Water (I think there's a 'the' missing in the name, but that's the official name). these cartoons made me late on several occasions, including Saturday English lessons at the school :)

Of course, there was Zorro and the first onscreen kiss I ever saw (and blushed a lot because my mother walked in right then and OMG she saw the kiss) and probably the root of my h/c preferences, because I remember wishing for poor Zorro to be hurt so he can afterwards be taken care of.

I'll finish this most honorable list with Sailor Moon, who was one of the big things when I was in 6th grade, with drawings and even a bit of playing in the holidays. I even have a few drawings of her I did around here :)

So. Are any of these familiar? :) Any cartoons you watched as a kid that stand out from the others? (Disney cartoons don't count ;) )

My gift fic was posted! It's called The White Dragon and it's sweet, interesting and funny. I won't spoil it for you, but I'll tell it's a perfect read for a peaceful December day.

In other news, I'm writing the fic I had planned for the darkfest for the next gen big bang. I love this fic more than any other fic I've worked on and I think it's closest to what I like, both as a reader and writer, from everything I wrote. I also have two AS/S fics I started writing for the AS/S fest (the first one) that I plan to work on as soon as this one is done.

So, would anyone want to beta a long(over 20k), dark-ish next gen fic, with Al and Scorpius as main characters (no ship, though)?

My giFt at the ron_draco fic exchange was posted and it's wonderful. It's always surprising for me to see how well someone can know what I like, sometimes better than I do ^_^ My gift fic has h/c, with a bit of angst and a lot of my likes included.

Twice as smart and better organized, since that part wasn't set up by me ^_^ I'm also calling it the no stress fest ;)

The gist of the matter is that you can claim up to 3 prompts at any given time and write a drabble (between 100 and 1000 words) for it. Then, when you submit the first one, you can claim another one!

This tutorial will show you how to save multiple pages that have similar URLs, mainly how to save the review pages at ff.net. The steps are the same no matter how many reviews there are, so this is an almost-automated way of doing it :)
